The Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD) on Microsoft .NET credential is the top-level certification for advanced developers who design and develop leading-edge enterprise solutions by using Microsoft development tools and technologies in addition to the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 and Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1.

Developers who use the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 and Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 should consider the following two credentials:

These credentials give developers a simpler and more targeted framework to showcase their technical and on-the-job skills.

Developers who use the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 and Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 should consider earning the MCTS credential to demonstrate in-depth technical knowledge or breadth of technology skills and the MCPD credential to demonstrate leading professional skills with a job-role focus.
